https://www.counting-stuff.com ← New site! Emails will go through there now and not Substack.
TL;DR: Please add newsletter@counting-stuff.com (and help@counting-stuff.com ) to your contacts because future newsletter posts will come from there and it might get marked as spam. Next Tuesday’s post should be via the new setup. Expect hiccups, please let me know on discord or via email if things are slow/broken/weird.
Also, paid subscribers, to avoid disruption, I’m gonna let the existing Stripe subscriptions run their natural course. Your subscriber status has been transferred over. I don’t think the plans/SKUs can be renewed so you’ll have to update payment in the future. If you want to just get a refund (and consider resubscribing in the new system) just let me know by pinging randy [ dot ] au [at] gmail and I’ll manually figure things out.
Yeah, I know I was planning on moving towards the end of the month, but having a bunch of days off in a giant solid block helped me break through a lot of infra work. I think it took me 6 hours of trial and error to debug why my posts weren’t importing and getting mail to function.
Luckily, the Ghost dev team was surprisingly responsive. They fixed a bug report I sent in about half my post images being broken (substack’s export does some weird stuff) over a weekend. So what I thought would’ve taken a week or two of waiting (or manual labor) resolved itself.
So, in the spirit of “solving the problems in front of me”, we’re gonna just launch on the new site. It’s largely functioning as I need it to. I’ve got some plans to commission some new logo work and site design tweaks in the coming month or two, but those are largely cosmetic.
There’s also still a lot of fiddly details that need fixing. I think images are still a bit wonky and I might still have to manually go through the backlog to fix things. There’s always a question of server load, capacity, caching, and plenty of other issues I haven’t had a chance to think about.
But we’re gonna do it anyways and hope not too much stuff breaks.
